چکیده

Science is still searching for readily available, cost-effective biomarkers to assess metabolic disorders occurring before the onset and during development of type-2 diabetes (T2DM). The aim present study was induce T2DM in rats through a high-fat diet, followed by single administration low dose streptozotocin (STZ), make an assessment disease. were divided into two groups—experimental control—and monitored period 10 days. Changes anthropometric parameters, glucose, insulin, lipids, uric acid, advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP), as well histological changes liver pancreas, recorded. To insulin resistance, we used Homeostasis Model Assessment Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) beta cell function (HOMA-β) visceral obesity—adiposity index (AI). data demonstrate that increasing values HOMA-IR, AI, total cholesterol, triacylglycerols, low- very-low-density lipoproteins are important markers pre-diabetic state. stable hyperglycemia increased levels TC, TG, VLDL, LDL, acid AOPP experimental strongly suggest T2DM. HOMA-β, reliable criteria rats.

Protective effect of pioglitazone on cardiomyocyte apoptosis in low-dose streptozotocin & high-fat diet-induced type-2 diabetes in rats

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Cardiomyocyte apoptosis is one of the pathologic phenomena associated with diabetes and related conditions including obesity, insulin resistance and hyperlipidaemia. In the present study, the protective effects of pioglitazone on cardiomyocyte apoptosis was evaluated in experimental diabetes induced by low dose of streptozoticin (STZ) combined with high fat diet (HFD) in...

The Effect of Long-Term Intranasal Serotonin Treatment on Metabolic Parameters and Hormonal Signaling in Rats with High-Fat Diet/Low-Dose Streptozotocin-Induced Type 2 Diabetes

In the last years the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) was carried out using regulators of the brain signaling systems. In DM2 the level of the brain serotonin is reduced. So far, the effect of the increase of the brain serotonin level on DM2-induced metabolic and hormonal abnormalities has been studied scarcely. The present work was undertaken with the aim of filling this gap. DM2 w...

The Characterization of High-Fat Diet and Multiple Low-Dose Streptozotocin Induced Type 2 Diabetes Rat Model

AIM Based on the previously established method, we developed a better and stable animal model of type 2 diabetes mellitus by high-fat diet combined with multiple low-dose STZ injections. Meanwhile, this new model was used to evaluate the antidiabetic effect of berberine. METHOD Wistar male rats fed with regular chow for 4 weeks received vehicle (control groups), rats fed with high-fat diet fo...

Embelia ribes extract reduces high fat diet and low dose streptozotocin-induced diabetic nephrotoxicity in rats

Nephropathy associated with type 2 diabetes is the single most common cause of end-stage renal disease. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the preventive effect of ethanolic extract of Embelia ribes fruit (EER) against high fat diet (HFD) and low dose streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic nephrotoxicity in Wistar rats. HFD-fed and low dose STZ (35 mg/kg, i.p)-induced diabetic rats wer...
